1985 follow up to "A New England", Sorry for the quality. "He's On The Beach " was written about a man called Terry Smith, a drummer who emigrated to Australia in 1985. He was good friends with Kirsty and all the Madness gang (he actually taught woody to play). He used to hang around with all that crowd in north london in the early 80's, Tracey Ullman, Tempole Tudor etc. He appeared in one of Tracey's videos, the one where he cuts the wire at the beginning of the video. Terry is still on the beach . . . His sister Leslie still lives in the UK, thanks Leslie for the information. WWW.JUSTICEFORKIRSTY.ORG

Co-written with Pete Glenister, from the album "Kite". It wouldn't take a long time To explain what lies between us And it wouldn't take a genius To work out what the scene is It might just take a pilot To give you a natural high But you're sending off those bottle tops For your free piece of mind And are you just waving or drowning? It's so hard to tell when you're so far away Oh innocence has passed you by A long long time ago I was the fly upon your wall And I saw what you know Your pornographic priestess left you for another guy You frighten little children and you'll always wonder why Always wonder why The mercury is rising And it's not all that surprising In the land of milk and honey Where you make big money And it always keeps the rain off And it always keeps you dry But back home the people hate you And you never did know why But I think I'm going to tell you Just give me fifty thousand lire for my thoughts Oh innocence has passed you by A long long time ago I was the fly upon your wall And I saw what you know The supermarket checkout girl Once smacked you in the eye When you eat noone else does But you always wonder why Always wonder why It would take a gunshot Just to clear your head awhile And after all this time How can you stand there Look at me and smile? Now are you just waving or drowning? It's so hard to tell with you so far away Oh innocence has passed you by A long long time ago I was the fly upon your wall And I saw what you know Degeneration suits ...

Enjoy (: lyrics: He blew into town like a paper sack In a stolen car with a shotgun in the back he said She can't run now, she can't hide I'm gonna get her back for her lies lies lies He taught her how to pout And he taught her how to tease And he taught her how to beg When she fell down to her knees he said Your face is different But you're really all the same I have to teach you a lesson again and again See I feel no pleasure And I feel no pain So what else can I do? I can't stop killing you When you're out there in the dark I'll come rushing through your brain When you wake up in the morning I'll be coursing through your veins When you're swimming in the water I'm the hand that drags you under I'm the lightning that strikes you Just before you hear the thunder can't stop killing you Well she woke up in the bathroom With her face upon the floor She said I don't know what I'm doing here But I've been here before And the fixit man had fixed her 'cos he's such a little hitler And he loves the feel of power That she gives him through her terror I can't stop killing you Well she looked into the mirror And she smoked her cigarette And she wondered where she'd go now To find a place she could forget All the things he said he'd do I can't stop killing you When you're out there in the dark I'll come rushing through your brain When you wake up in the morning I'll be coursing through your veins When you're swimming in the water I'm the hand that drags you under I'm the lightning ...

THAT song from the Titanic Days period. Originally cut from the album for being almost too touching (it concerned her recent divorce), Kirsty later 'gave' the track to Eddi Reader - Kirsty wrote this album with Mark E. Nevin of Fairground Attraction. Since Kirsty's death it's resurfaced in various locations. Here it is now - I defy you not to shed a tear... For the love of Kirsty... www.justiceforkirsty.org

Track 10 of the album 'Tropical Brainstorm' ---------------------------------------- Here in the country we dance and we play And we pray to our saints and we make love all day I fell in love with a real city boy Who's afraid of his nature, afraid of his joyI punched him out and brought him to this hut But I know he'll thank me when he wakes up We got trees, we got snakes, we got acres of sky His life in the city was making him cry Come on, come on darling, be brave for a while You don't look afraid when you laugh and you smile I'll be good, I'll be strong I'll be just what you needed all along Here in the country we dance and we play And we pray to our saints and we make love all day I fell in love with a real city boy Who's afraid of his nature, afraid of his joy Us Amazonians know where we stand We got kids, we got jobs, why do we need a man? Us Amazonians make out alright But we want something to hold in the forest at night Come on, come on darling, be brave for a while You don't look afraid when you laugh and you smile Breathe in deep, stick with me You'll still be free as you let yourself be If you're certain, if you're true I'll be the only country girl for you I'll be good, I'll be strong I'll be just what you needed all along Here in the country we dance and we play And we pray to our saints and we make love all day I fell in love with a real city boy Gotta teach him about nature, and teach him about joy Us Amazonians know where we stand We got kids, we got jobs ...

In a "stranger than fiction" tragedy, Kirsty was killed in a motorboat accident in Mexico. A speeding boat came toward them as she and her sons swam in the water, she and her sons were in its path and Kirsty took action to push them out of harm's way. Unfortunately, she was killed. The ensuing court case gave the driver of the boat a light sentence, and paid the MacColl family with the equivalent of $2150 (US) as for damages. A miscarriage of justice. RIP, Kirsty. Please visit her website and purchase this music and more, at www.kirstymaccoll.com ETA it was both of her sons in the water with her, and they had all just risen from the deep in a diving expedition. The boat should not have been near them, and the cover-up as to what happened has never been resolved to the MacColl family's satisfaction. Kirsty will always be remembered for her kindness, her love, and her music. If you visit her website, you can support her legacy by buying something you can hold on to forever -- the recordings she left behind. You can also visit the site which was begun to fight for justice in this case, www.justiceforkirsty.org

Used to be super super rare but not so much now. It was slated to be a follow-up single to "They Don't Know", but it was scrapped at the last minute leaving a few exceptionally rare white-label test pressings in circulation. Now if anyone has the b-side to that, give me a shout. ;-) This was later covered by Tracey Ullman and became the name of her second LP. Enjoy! Justice for Kirsty! www.justiceforkirsty.org

I was shocked to see that this video was not on YouTube. "Terry" was released in 1983 and didn't reach the chart in the UK. The music video was very funny and a good interpretation of the lyrics. I have an old recording of it which I've tried to remaster with an original soundfile. Hope you enjoy, and if you've got a better version of this video please upload it. It deserves to be seen!!

Slightly rarer rendition of Kirsty's hit Smiths cover (released as a B-Side to Free World and for the 'She's Having A Baby' OST). Basically it includes an extra verse at the start, whereas most versions jump straight into the second. Enjoy. God bless Kirsty. www.justiceforkirsty.org

GREAT SHOES and a Great song from Kirsty MacColl, one of the last she recorded, before her untimely death. We made this video just because, we love the song! We love the SHOES, and we love Kirsty MacColl. A tragic loss to her family and to all of us. She died saving the life of her son, on a diving accident in Mexico. She was a great Spunky girl, and her contribution to the music, will be missed by us all.

In a change to our usual tomfoolery, Scoundrel's team bring you a tribute to his favourite singer/songwriter, Kirsty MacColl. I first saw Kirsty perform this song on a French & Saunders show but the words are particularly poignant following Kirsty's tragic death in 2000, for which the killers have yet to be brought to justice. This song featured as the B-side on her now classic cover of "Days". (Oh, and look out for Merlin & Luna at the beginning, desperate as ever to get a piece of the action). Both versions of As Long As You Hold Me - a Billy Bragg penned track (demo from the William Bloke era) for the soundtrack to the film 'Mad Love'. Billy wasn't too happy with his rendition so he invited Kirsty to sing and record it herself. A fantastic song by both artists. Rest In Peace to Kirsty. www.justiceforkirsty.org

This one's for a friend of mine who loved this cover (The Clash being the original, as if you needed telling) but couldn't find it anywhere. It's been a while since my last Kirsty track but there's very little left to post and what is left I don't have! Rumour has it Union Square Music are releasing a 2-disc compilation with unheard bits, so keep your ears to the ground! This is from a live show with Billy Bragg at London's Hackney Empire on 31st December 91. I got this from a Bragg fan's blog featuring an ungodly amount of live shows, but I got there by sheer fluke and can't find it again, so here's a highlight! She also sang a solo Fairytale Of New York, so I'll post that within the next couple of weeks if it's wanted. I left on Walking Down Madison for the sake of keeping a natural flow (you'll see what I mean when you hear it) Enjoy! God bless Kirsty!
